That was not just right!

—Goldilocks frustrated and her most famous quote.

Goldilocks, also known as Goldi, is the infamous leader of the Three Bears Crime Family. She wants to get the Last Wish so she can use it to regain her biological family- which she retracts from after realizing the true family she had (the Three Bears).

Appearance

Goldilocks is a young woman with golden blonde hair, blue eyes, fair skin, and wears a blue dress with white sleeves and the gown made of numerous mismatched strips of fabric. She wears boots and leggings, and carries a wooden staff with two points and has pearl-like beads tied to it. She also wears mismatching jewelry, including beads, pearls, mismatched earrings, and beaded hair-ties holding her hair up in two frilly parts somewhat resembling bear ears. Later on, she gains a faint scar over her left eyebrow, and she has two locks of hair extending from the back of her head down her shoulders. As a child, Goldi was very similar to her older self, including her clothes.

Personality

Goldilocks, known as Goldi by her adoptive family and rivals, is a fierce and determined young woman- seeking what she wants with great fervor and having a liking for things to be "just right". Goldi leads her adoptive family, the Three Bears, as their self-appointed leader, supported by Papa and Mama Bear while Baby Bear tends to butt heads with her and they bicker like all brothers and sisters do. She often has to keep her adoptive parents focused on the task at hand and often orders Baby to sniff out their quarry since he has the best sense of smell.

Though Goldi is close with her adoptive family, deep down she longed for her biological family- as she is an orphan (a fact often rubbed in her face by Baby) and wanted the Wishing Star's singular wish to find her real family. This was an obsession that initially blinded her from the family she already had. At first, Goldi kept her wish a secret from the Three Bears until Baby angrily demanded her to tell them and her answer left them heartbroken and speechless. Goldi halfheartedly explained that she didn't really belong with them, as isn't a bear herself and wanted things to be "just right" with the world (as in being with her biological family).

Goldi was humbled when the Three Bears, despite being hurt, chose to help her get her wish if it was what she truly wanted. But when Goldi had the chance to make the wish she passed it up to save her adoptive brother, Baby, from his doom- proving that in spite of her feelings and insecurities, Goldi loved the Three Bears and finally made peace with herself. She truly understood that she already had what she wanted (which the Wishing Star had been trying to tell her all along) and began to get along better with Baby, encouraging him to decide their next venture.

History

Goldilocks was an orphan in the Crying Tears Orphanage, where she often checked out a Book of Fairy Tales from the orphanage library. She often looked at an illustration in the book, depicting a little girl with her parents which she doodled on- adding golden color to make the girl look like herself (a visual representation of Goldi longing for her own family).

At some point in Goldi's childhood, she presumably ran away from the orphanage, taking the book with her, and found her way into the Cabin of the Three Bears. She tried their porridge, their chairs, and their beds- settling into Baby Bear's bed (as it was just right) and fell asleep. When the Three Bears came home and found this little girl who broke into their home, they found their hearts stolen by her, especially Mama Bear, and they adopted Goldi into their family.

After Goldi grew up, she soon took leadership of her adoptive family, and they became the the Three Bears Crime Family. Though Goldi was adopted and made a part of the Three Bears' family, her adoptive brother, Baby Bear, often reminded Goldi of her being an orphan and not a real bear out of sibling rivalry, which unfortunately reignited Goldi's yearning to have her real family.

Puss in Boots: The Last Wish

Goldilocks first appears when she and the Three Bears arrive in Del Mar late at night. Goldilocks looks over the tracks in the area, deeming one pair of tracks too small (the tracks of a bird), a single footprint too big (the footprint of a giant), but one pair that turned out to be just right, and commands her brother, Baby Bear, to "track that cat".

After following the trail, they arrive at and break into Mama Luna's house, looking for Puss. She tells Mama Luna that she and the family got an offer for him, to which Mama Luna responded, "There are no cats here!" Goldilocks then had Papa Bear and Mama Bear interrogate her, which only resulted in the old woman fainting. She then orders Baby to search for Puss by using his smell, while she and Mama search for Puss as Papa Bear torments Mama Luna while playing her piano. Baby then informs Goldilocks and his parents that he found Puss, in which he shows them his "grave". As they talk, they are overheard by Puss (unbeknownst to the family) that they aim to steal the fabled Map to the Wishing Star from "Big" Jack Horner before departing.

She, along with the bears then infiltrate "Big" Jack Horner's collection in which they spot Puss and Kitty as well as Jack Horner- all of whom the confront until the cats run off with the map. As Goldi and the Bears chase Puss and Kitty, the Bears attempt to come after him in which Puss uses a stick-on Baby and Mama; but as he attempts to do the same with Papa, he is knocked out of the air. As he breaks out of the window with Kitty, the two them hop into a carriage with Perrito.

With Baby leading by tracking the scent, Goldi and the Three Bears then go on a journey to the Wishing Star, while planning on what they can do when they make a wish for it. "Big" Jack Horner then bumps into them as the Bears family crash while Mama holds the latter to cushion her fall. As "Big" Jack Horner is taken Perrito hostage, Goldi and the Bears then threaten him by using one of his henchmen. After Baby notices that Puss and Kitty have the map, Goldi and the Bears go into battle to retrieve the Map while The Baker's Dozen try to kill Puss and his friends.

After getting the map to the Wishing Star, the Bears and Goldi celebrate as they travel to the Star. They travel through the "Nostalgic Pines" where they find a cabin exactly like their own, which they enter and relax. The bears ignore Goldi as she tries to tell them that it was just an obstacle created by the Dark Forest. Goldi soon notices a book of fairy tales and opens it, revealing it's a library book she enjoyed as a child. She then sees an illusion of herself as a little girl, playing out the memory of when Goldi originally broke into the Three Bears' Cabin- which Mama Bear fondly remembers as the day Goldi also stole their hearts and became part of their family. The day when "their world became just right," which touches Goldi's heart but also troubles her.

As Puss and Kitty sneak in, the latter swipes the map, though Goldi and Mama quickly notice it's gone. As Goldi wakes up Baby and Papa, Puss then gets caught in which Goldi and the Bears then attempt to retrieve the Map, which ends up in Kitty's paws. When Kitty opens the Map, it causes the cabin and landscape to start to shift and become Kitty's path to the Wishing Star, only for Goldi to throw her staff to pin the Map out of Kitty's paws. This causes the shift to get stuck halfway. Puss and Kitty then battle the Bears as they each dance and kick the porridge, in which they throw the porridges onto the bears.

As Puss and Kitty escape with the map, Goldi and the Bears kidnap Perrito. Kitty then goes to rescue Perrito while Puss looks for a way out of the Cave of Lost Souls. Goldi and the Bears then make a booby-trap in order to get the Map back from the cats using Perrito as bait. Soon after, Baby Bear and Goldilocks start bickering and throwing insults at each other, which is amused and mocked by Perrito. Baby Bear tells Perrito to stay out of it, which causes Perrito to laugh and insult the Three Bears and Goldilocks with profanity. Perrito tells Goldilocks that her family is funny and she, being an orphan, she won the lottery, Goldilocks is left at a loss for words, when Mama Bear says that they should adopt Perrito since he's just like them. Kitty stealthily takes Perrito and replaces he with a fake statue of Perrito. Baby Bear angrily grabs the statue, but just as Goldilocks reminds Baby Bear about the trap it's too late as it's tripped and they get caught in their own trap.

Later, while Puss in Boots arrives at the place where the Last Wish was, the Three Bears and Goldilocks realize they are also nearby, which makes Goldilocks insult and scold Baby Bear for losing the trail. Fed up with Goldilocks' abuse and insults, Baby Bear starts yelling at her and demanding she tells them what wish is so important to her that she dragged them out into this "haunted forest". Cornered and frustrated, Goldilocks finally reveals that she wants to use the wish to get a "proper family." This breaks the hearts of the Three Bears, which makes Goldi feel guilty as she halfheartedly states that she's not a bear and does not feel part of the family. Mama Bear tearfully responds that if this wish is what Goldi wants and will make her happy, they will help her get it- stunning her that they are still willing to help her even though she says nothing, and they continue on.

The Three Bears and Goldilocks soon arrive at the Wishing Star and join in the final fight. Near the end, Goldi has the map of the Last Wish. When she is about to make the wish, Goldi realizes that Baby Bear is in mortal danger, about to be obliterated by the star's cosmic wall. Though she is tempted and briefly hesitates, Goldi ultimately abandons the wish and saves Baby Bear, much to Baby's excited relief. After the "defeat" of "Big" Jack Horner, Death makes himself known with his eerie whistle before appears through the cosmic wall as they hear Puss say, "He's here for me." Goldi and the Three Bears watch the epic duel of Puss in Boots and Death that ends with Puss besting Death, who ultimately decides to spare Puss. After this, Goldi and the Three Bears team up with Puss in Boots, Kitty and Perrito to stop "Big" Jack Horner from making his wish. They accomplish this by destroying the Map, which causes the Wishing Star to implode. Everyone but Jack manages to escape the Star and get to safety while Jack meets his doom.

After Jack Horner's defeat and the destruction of the Wishing Star, Puss, Kitty, Perrito, the Three Bears and Goldilocks enjoy the meteor shower together. Goldi makes amends with the Three Bears, finally understanding that what she wanted was there all along, and embraced the bears as her true family, stating that "everything is just right". The Bears and Goldilocks then take their leave, giving an amicable farewell to Puss in Boots, Kitty and Perrito. She tells him he was right about how lucky she was, as the two former orphans give each other a friendly wink. As they walk off into the moonlight, Goldi suggests Baby to decide their next big adventure, much to his delight. Baby suggests that they take over Jack Horner's pastry organization since he's out of the picture, to which Goldilocks replies that it's a good idea. Upon hearing this proposal, the Ethical Bug hops on Baby's nose and says it's a good idea and that he can tell them about ethical business practices. Baby Bear freaks out about the "talking cockroach" on his nose which makes Goldilocks try to hit the Ethical Bug, only to whack her brother's nose, to his painful chagrin.

The Trident

Goldilocks and the Three Bears Crime Family find Puss on a pirate ship where he's almost eaten by a shark. Papa Bear grabs Poseidon's trident and takes Puss off of it. Goldi then uses the trident to boil a bucket of water, claiming that their porridge will be "just right." Wanting to have a turn with the trident, Baby Bear accidentally knocks it out of her hands, nearly waking up one of the pirates. Before they can get it back, Kitty wakes all of the pirates with a loud guitar strum. A massive brawl ensues, with the crime family fighting the pirates and the cats. When seeing Kitty run away with the trident, Goli chases after her with the bears on a boat. Unfortunately, they fail and are not seen again in the story.

Trivia

  • She is based on the character from Goldilocks and the Three Bears.
  • Goldilocks (along with the Three Bears) is the fourth villain of the Shrek franchise who is usually good (though in Goldilocks' case, flawed) in the fairy tales but are villains in the films- following the Fairy Godmother, Prince Charming and Rapunzel.
    • Although she functions more like an anti-villain instead of previous antagonists.
  • Like Fairy Godmother and Charming, Goldi is an antagonist with an English accent- making her the third Shrek antagonist with an English accent.
  • Goldilocks was planned to be included in the original Shrek film, with story artists proposing two ideas for her potential appearance. One was having Goldilocks knock on Shrek's door to sell him girl scout cookies; and another was having Goldilocks raiding Shrek's lander and complaining about the food by remarking that it was too hot, too cold or "just disgusting." In the end, the filmmakers desisted from including Goldilocks in the movie, though the Three Bears were kept.
  • A scrapped idea had Goldilocks being affected by the Wishing Star's magic. Concept art displayed crystal shards in her hair, and having a cosmic aura around her.
  • Though she is not a bear herself, Goldi has subtle traits that resemble those of her adoptive father, mother, and brother:
    • Later in the film, Goldi gets a faint scar over her left eyebrow, similar to how Papa Bear's left blind eye is scarred.
    • Goldi wears mismatched earrings like Mama Bear.
    • Goldi has blue eyes like Baby Bear.
    • Goldi's hair is tied up to somewhat resemble bear ears.
    • It's hard to notice without a closer look, but Goldi has sharp eye teeth- resembling bear teeth.
    • Finally, her dress initially started with multi color represents her desired for her wishes of biological family. In the end, her dress had changed to brown represents her acceptation that she got a family what she wanted: the Three Bears.
  • In the Latin Spanish dub, Goldilocks and the rest of her family speaks using an Argentinian accent due to her voice actress (Julieta Nair Calvo) being from Argentina.
