Imelda, also referred to as Mama Imelda, is Puss' adoptive mother and the owner of the San Ricardo Orphanage. She also looked after Humpty Dumpty and other orphans.

Appearance[]

She is a large, round women with black hair worn in a bun. She wears a white floral dress with a long red apron skirt.

In Puss in Boots: The Last Wish she was redesigned to be slimmer with a brand new outfit and slightly altered hairstyle.

Personality[]

According to Puss, Imelda was an "Angel of Kindness (most of the time)," as she always takes in any orphan who finds their way into her orphanage, welcomes them into her heart and raises them as her own. She was a loving mother to all of her kids, but sometimes had to yell to get their attention. She always wanted the best for both Humpty and Puss, and was disappointed when they began a life of thievery. Even when Puss was arrested by the Comandante upon his return, she still wanted him to be safe and surrender as to not get in greater trouble.

Puss in Boots[]

When Puss is telling Kitty about the history of Humpty, he begins discussing his initial past as an orphan kitten in a basket. Imelda was the first vivid memory Puss had, seeing her as she took him into the San Ricardo Orphanage. She was trying to get the kids' attention, and raised her voice. She then introduced them to Puss (who just mewed). As the kitten grew older, he and Humpty would begin stealing from various townsfolk, which caught the attention of the Comandante. She reassures him that "they are just kids," before he walks off menacingly. She told them that they are better than this, and she still "believed in them with all her heart."

After Puss was deemed a hero and was tricked by Humpty into being his getaway driver, she was heartbroken to see Puss went back to stealing. This would be the last time the two saw each other before the cat left San Ricardo. Upon his return, Puss is about to be arrested by the soldiers and is preparing to fight back. Imelda soon walks in, pleading Puss to not fight them. She tells him to "face what he has done" and stop breaking her heart. Seeing Puss save San Ricardo from the Great Terror, she realized how much Puss had changed and was finally proud of him again. When Puss came to her in person, she lovingly forgave him and the two hugged. She lets him know that he is "San Ricardo's greatest hero," and he'll always be in her heart.

Puss in Boots: The Last Wish[]

When Puss' lives flash before his eyes, he remembers the moment he received his boots from Imelda. She appears again in the same flashback before Puss' final fight with Death. Her outfit is different in the flashback, although she retains her more realistic features from the first Puss in Boots.
