A mermaid resembling Ariel from the Disney film The Little Mermaid makes a cameo appearance during the "Accidentally in Love" scene in Shrek 2, when Shrek and Fiona are on the beach during their honeymoon.
A wave comes in and washes up this mermaid, leaving her on top of Shrek, kissing him. Soon after, Fiona throws her back into the sea, where it is implied that she is eaten by sharks (though it is not certain whether she is eaten or merely attacked)
She is later briefly mentioned by Fiona's Fairy Godmother, who explains that her story has no ogres in it.
- The appearance of this Mermaid in the film is similar to that of the Little Mermaid (also referred to as Ariel) from the Disney film. She is also the only "princess" in the Shrek films that bears a notable amount of resemblance to her Disney counterpart.
- It is not known if she died. Some believe that she was devoured by two white sharks and others believe she would have escaped them. The character was in fact killed at the end of the original fairytale.
