Tinker Bell is a minor character who first appeared in Shrek. She is based on the same character from J.M. Barrie's play Peter Pan, or the Boy Who Wouldn't Grow Up.

Appearances[]

Shrek[]

In the first film, Tinker Bell is being sold by Peter Pan to the Duloc Guards. When Donkey's owner is being restrained by the guards, she accidentally kicks Tinker Bell's cage into the air. Her cage lands and breaks on Donkey, her fairy dust allows Donkey to fly temporarily. She is seen again flying around when Shrek first witnesses the crowd of fairytale creatures invading his swamp. Other fairies are also spotted later on.

Shrek 4-D[]

After appearing in the opening credits, a frog grabs Tinker Bell with its tongue and tries to eat her. She then escapes and flies around with the frog's tongue still attached to her and escapes by flying into the hollow of a tree. Tinker Bell then happens to land on Donkey's nose, causing him to temporarily fly after touching her fairy dust. Donkey sneezes her onto Shrek's map and she flies away. She appears again at the end of the film, and gets hit by a champagne cork. A practical effect shows her getting zapped after crashing into a light.

Shrek 2[]

In Shrek 2, she and many other fairies are trapped in jars by Shrek and Fiona to light up their mud bath. Shrek and Fiona then fart in the mud making bubbles, which the fairies wave away. She later dances with Gingy during the afterparty of the wedding ball.

In Far Far Away Idol, Tinker Bell dances with Gingy once again, insults Captain Hook's singing, and uses her magic to turn Puss's boots into dancing shoes.

Swamp Talk[]

She was paired with Rumpelstiltskin in the episode "Celebrity Fairytale Couples". This was because Rumpel had allegedly given her golden wings as part of a secret deal.

Video Game Appearances[]

Tinker Bell is a playable character in the Shrek 2 video game. In the level "Prison Break", she helps rescue Shrek, Donkey, and Puss with Little Red Riding Hood, the Big Bad Wolf and the Gingerbread Man. In the game, Tinker Bell is arrogant, sarcastic and opinionated, but she is very kind and helpful nonetheless. She is notable for being the only playable character with no physical attacks, exclusively shooting magic from afar. Her special ability has her use magic to cause allies and enemies alike to start floating in mid-air.

In Shrek Smash and Crash Racing, she makes a cameo in the Potion Factory Exterior Track. She is the purple fairy that flies across the track, and if any character hits her, they will spin out.

Trivia[]

  • Tinker Bell's physical form in the first film parallels her appearance in the original Peter Pan play, being only a speck of light, although unlike the play you can see a hint of her body. She also has a cone hat. In all subsequent appearances, her glow is much less bright, has red hair in a pixie cut and wears a green leotard.
  • There are several hints that Tinker Bell was a last minute addition to the Shrek 2 video game. She only appears in one level (Prison Break) with no introduction and her special ability provides no in-level use besides stunning enemies. When used in the Crash Coliseum bonus game, her ability has no effect on Shrek, Donkey, Fiona or any enemies that aren't knights or villagers, and she lacks a win animation. She is also the only playable character who lacks a Hero Time segment.
