The Magic Mirror is, as the name implies, a mirror who possesses magical abilities. He is primarily used to provide information on various individuals, and can be used like a television.

Appearances[]

Shrek[]

The Magic Mirror is brought to Duloc at the request of Lord Farquaad. Farquaad has his captain bring him to the dungeons and asks the mirror if Duloc is the "most perfect kingdom of them all". The mirror truthfully tells Farquaad that Duloc isn’t a kingdom and that Farquaad isn't technically a king as he wasn't born from royalty, prompting Farquaad to have Thelonious threaten him by smashing a handheld mirror. The Magic Mirror clarifies by saying that while Farquaad isn't a king yet, he can become one if he simply marries a princess. The mirror presents him with three princesses to choose from: Cinderella, Snow White, and Princess Fiona. After Farquaad chooses Fiona, the mirror attempts to warn him about Fiona's curse, but Farquaad silences him.

The Magic Mirror is later seen propped up on an easel in Farquaad's bedroom, forced to replay an image of Fiona for him. Farquaad also uses him as a mirror while getting ready for his wedding. The mirror is then seen attending Shrek and Fiona's wedding, and is later seen at Shrek's Karaoke Dance Party.

Shrek 4-D[]

The Magic Mirror serves as the main host of the preshow. The mirror discovers a group of people in front of him after he was woken by Pinocchio. He helps the people by telling them a summary of Shrek's backstory of the first movie of what happened before. After he finishes, the Ghost of Farquaad appears, who tells him where Shrek and Fiona's location.

Shrek 2[]

The Magic Mirror is used as a TV screen in Shrek's home. He reports the news of Shrek, Donkey and Puss in Boots being captured by the guards of Far Far Away and is seen during the song "Livin la Vida Loca".

Shrek Forever After[]

In the alternative universe, he is again being used as a TV screen announcing Rumpelstiltskin's "Deal of Lifetime." He appears at the end credits with the rest of the fairytale creatures to help Fiona light the pretty ball.

Shrek the Musical[]

The Mirror's role is no different than the first film. He still helps Lord Farquaad pick Fiona as his princess, and is used for his amusement. A new feature however displays him projecting a clone of the video game "Space Invaders" when Farquaad is in the bathtub. In this production, he was played by Muppet performer and actor, John Tartaglia.

Swamp Talk[]

The Magic Mirror appears in every episode of Swamp Talk, announcing the name of the show at the beginning of each episode, and reacting to what Donkey and Shrek say by making certain expressions.

Video Games[]

The Magic Mirror appears in Shrek Super Party as the host of the tournament mode. There are board spaces that can summon him to force players into random events- most of which intended to either lead the player to victory, or hold them back. He is also the only character who actual voice lines, with Chris Miller reprising his role from the film.

The Magic Mirror appeared in the Shrek 2 video game as the narrator. He appears throughout the game announcing the various "Hero Time" levels, and chiming in the action at certain moments. He also had a major presence during the game's tutorial levels.

The Magic Mirror appears in the Shrek Forever After video game, in which the main characters can use him to teleport between Shrek's normal world and the alternate reality.

The Magic Mirror also appears in Shrek Smash n' Crash Racing, alerting the player when a new character or mode is unlocked. He also appears in another racing title, DreamWorks Super Star Kartz, as the icon for the game's "Mirror Mode." While not physically appearing, he is mentioned by Lord Farquaad in DreamWorks All-Star Kart Racing in his victory line, "I've come in first! Just as the Magic Mirror predicted!"
